Apex Up CIC Volunteer Policy

1 Policy statement

Volunteers are vital to Apex Up CIC. They bring time, energy, skills and local knowledge, and  several of our volunteers are former participants giving back to their community. We value our  volunteers and are committed to recruiting, supporting and managing them well, and to  keeping them and the people they work with safe.

2 Purpose and scope

This policy sets out what volunteers can expect from us and what we expect from them. It  applies to everyone who gives their time to us on an unpaid basis.

3 Recruitment and checks

We recruit volunteers fairly and follow the same safer recruitment principles we apply to staff.  Volunteers in regulated activity complete an enhanced DBS check before they have  unsupervised contact with children or adults at risk, and all volunteers complete an induction  that covers our Safeguarding Policy and Code of Conduct. Full detail is set out in our Safer  Recruitment & DBS Policy.

4 Roles and expectations

Each volunteer has a clear idea of their role and the support around them. We ask volunteers  to follow our policies and Code of Conduct, to be reliable, to respect confidentiality, and to  report any safeguarding or other concern. Volunteers always work under the guidance of a  member of staff and are never asked to take on responsibilities beyond their role or training.

5 Support, development and recognition

We give volunteers a proper welcome, ongoing support and supervision, and access to  relevant training, including safeguarding. We support former participants who volunteer to  progress towards coaching qualifications where they wish to. We reimburse reasonable  agreed out-of-pocket expenses, and we recognise and value the contribution our volunteers  make.

6 Rights, responsibilities and problem-solving

Volunteering with us is not a contract of employment, and volunteers are not paid a wage.  Volunteers are covered by our insurance while carrying out agreed activities. If a problem  arises, we aim to resolve it informally and fairly; serious concerns about conduct or  safeguarding are dealt with under the relevant policy. Either side can end a volunteering  arrangement, and we will always do so respectfully.

7 Review

This policy links to our Safeguarding, Safer Recruitment & DBS and Code of Conduct policies  and is reviewed at least annually.
