Apex Up CIC Anti-Bullying & Harassment Policy

1 Policy statement

Apex Up CIC is committed to providing a safe, welcoming environment where bullying and  harassment are not accepted. Everyone who takes part in our activities has the right to feel  safe and respected. We take all reports of bullying seriously and deal with them promptly and  fairly.

2 Purpose and scope

This policy explains what we mean by bullying and harassment, how we prevent it, and how  we respond when it happens. It applies to behaviour between participants, and to behaviour  involving staff, coaches, volunteers and parents, including online.

3 What we mean by bullying and harassment

Bullying is behaviour, usually repeated over time, that is intended to hurt someone physically  or emotionally. It includes physical harm, name-calling, threats, exclusion, spreading rumours,  and cyberbullying through phones or social media. Harassment is unwanted behaviour linked  to a protected characteristic, such as race, sex, disability, religion or sexual orientation.  “Banter” that hurts or humiliates someone is still bullying.

4 Our approach to prevention

We build a positive culture where difference is respected and kindness is expected. Coaches  set clear expectations, model respect, encourage teamwork across mixed groups, and step in  early when they notice unkind behaviour. We talk openly with young people about treating  each other well, both in person and online.

5 Reporting and responding

Anyone who experiences or witnesses bullying should tell a coach, the Director or the  Designated Safeguarding Lead. We take the concern seriously, listen to those involved, and  decide on a fair response — which may include speaking with those responsible, involving  parents, and agreeing how behaviour must change. We support the person who has been  bullied and follow up to make sure it has stopped. Where bullying raises a safeguarding  concern, we follow our Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy.

6 Responsibilities and review

All staff and volunteers are responsible for promoting positive behaviour and responding to  bullying. The Director oversees how concerns are handled. This policy links to our  Safeguarding, Code of Conduct, Positive Behaviour Management and Equality, Diversity &  Inclusion policies and is reviewed at least annually.
