Apex Up CIC First Aid Policy
1 Policy statement
Apex Up CIC is committed to making sure that anyone who becomes ill or is injured during our activities receives prompt and appropriate first aid. Because we deliver physical activity, sport and martial arts, we take first aid provision seriously and plan for it at every session.
2 Purpose and scope
This policy sets out our first aid arrangements and who is responsible for them. It applies to all our activities, at our venue and on off-site activities, and to staff, coaches, volunteers, participants and visitors.
3 Trained first aiders
We make sure that at least one suitably trained first aider is present at every session and holiday programme. First aiders keep their qualifications up to date, and we keep a record of who is trained and when their certificates need renewing.
4 First aid provision
A stocked first aid kit is available and easily accessible at every session, and it is checked regularly and restocked. Coaches know where it is kept and how to summon further help quickly if needed.
5 Dealing with an injury or illness
In the event of an injury or illness, staff assess the situation, provide first aid within their competence, and call 999 without delay if the situation is serious or they are unsure. We contact a child’s parents or carers as soon as possible, and we make the person comfortable and supervised until help arrives or they recover.
6 Medical information and recording
Before activity, we collect relevant medical information and consent, including any conditions, allergies or medication, and we make sure the staff delivering the session are aware of anything they need to know. All injuries, illnesses and the first aid given are recorded in our accident record, and notifiable incidents are reported to the Health and Safety Executive under RIDDOR where required. We review incidents to prevent them happening again.
7 Review and contacts
This policy links to our Health & Safety and Risk Management & Assessment policies and is reviewed at least annually.
