Apex Up CIC Code of Conduct

1 Purpose

This Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour we expect from everyone who works  or volunteers for Apex Up CIC. It protects the children and young people we work with, protects  our staff and volunteers, and protects the good name of the organisation. Everyone is asked  to read it, sign the acknowledgement, and follow it at all times.

2 Scope

This code applies to all directors, employees, sessional coaches, volunteers and students on  placement, in all settings connected with our work, including off-site activities and online  contact.

3 General conduct

We expect everyone to act with honesty, fairness and respect; to be reliable and punctual; to  follow our policies and reasonable instructions; to treat people, equipment and the venue with  care; and to be a positive role model for the young people we work with.

4 Working with children and young people

When working with children, you must:

  • treat all children fairly and with respect, and avoid favouritism;
  • maintain professional boundaries at all times;
  • avoid being alone with a child wherever possible, and stay within sight or hearing of  others;
  • use only the physical contact necessary to coach safely, explain it first, and respect a  child’s response;
  • use appropriate, positive language and never humiliate, threaten or shout aggressively  at a child;
  • never give lifts, gifts or your personal contact details to a child; and
  • never use, possess or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs while working  with children.

5 Safeguarding

Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility. You must follow our Safeguarding & Child  Protection Policy, report any concern to the Designated Safeguarding Lead without delay, and  never promise to keep a disclosure secret. If you are worried about the behaviour of a  colleague, you must report it.

6 Communication and social media

All contact with children and families should be through official channels. You must not contact  children privately through personal phones, messaging apps or social media, or accept them  as “friends” on personal accounts. Take care that your own use of social media does not bring  the organisation into disrepute. Our full expectations are set out in the Photography, Filming  & Social Media Policy.

7 Confidentiality, equality and health and safety

Handle personal information confidentially and in line with our Data Protection & Privacy  Policy. Treat everyone fairly and inclusively, in line with our Equality, Diversity & Inclusion  Policy, and challenge discrimination and bullying. Follow health and safety rules and risk  assessments, and report hazards and accidents.

8 Breaches of this code

A breach of this code may be dealt with through our disciplinary or volunteer management  procedures, and serious breaches may lead to dismissal or removal and, where appropriate,  referral to the relevant authorities. Concerns about a child’s safety will always be dealt with  through our safeguarding procedures.
