Apex Up CIC Environmental & Sustainability Policy

1 Policy statement

Apex Up CIC recognises that looking after our local environment is part of looking after our community. We are committed to reducing the environmental impact of our activities and our venue, and to encouraging the children, young people and families we work with to care for the world around them.

2 Purpose and scope

This policy sets out the practical steps we take to be more environmentally responsible and sustainable. It applies to all our activities and to everyone working or volunteering for us.

3 Our commitments

In our day-to-day work we will:

reduce waste by using reusable cups and bottles and recycling where we can; • plan menus on our holiday programmes to minimise food waste;
use energy-efficient lighting and equipment at our venue and switch off what we are not using;
choose local suppliers for food and equipment where it is practical and good value; • re-use and share sports kit and equipment across programmes rather than buying new each time; and
encourage families, staff and volunteers to walk or use public transport where they can.

4 Building it into our activities

We weave simple, positive messages about caring for the environment into our sessions — linking looking after our space and community with looking after ourselves and each other. We aim to make sustainable choices the normal, easy choice in how we run things.

5 Responsibilities and review

The Director leads on this policy, and all staff and volunteers are asked to follow it and suggest improvements. As a small organisation we take a practical, proportionate approach and build on what works. This policy is reviewed at least annually.

Approval and adoption

This Environmental & Sustainability Policy has been approved and adopted by the Board of Directors of Apex Up CIC. It will be reviewed at least every twelve months, and sooner if there is a change in legislation, national or local guidance, or following any relevant incident or learning.
